Is Canopus leaving behind the Event videographer
Is Edius leaving the event videographer?
I am ask this question over and over. The fear is that since Canopus has been bought by GrassValley and going into broadcast news stations that they are not going to develop for the market that has helped them become a strong company.
Now, I do not have massive inside information and even what I do have I can't share under penalty of death! So all I can share with you is what I see and what conclusions I can grab from that.
Canopus is not only going into the news room but also the Creative services departments of many of the stations. As I am one of the only trainers for this program I know this for a fact. I have trained nearly 40 stations over the last year and a half and MANY of the stations are buying it for the entire station.
What does this mean for you, the event videographer? It means that you are going to get more of what you need faster. I am asked to report to Canopus what the stations say and need and to tell you the truth I have seen my reports turn into features very quickly.
Almost every request I have mead has been implemented within 3 months so I know they are listening.
New Features, such as the new trimming, the new way in and out points are handled, the new way locks are handled, and being able to back time video are just some of the features that have been added over the last year.
As the feature for the creative services folks are being tweaked and added, you will get more of what you want. Correct Alpha Channel handling in 3D PiP as well as in the transitions are all important to the stations and so they are important to Canopus... this means you will get it quicker than you would other wise.
Look for other feature so mature and be added in the next year as Canopus GV tries to meet the need of these broadcasters.
Canopus leaving the videographer behind? Only time will tell but from where I sit? It looks like things are going to improve!
